Free E-Books
E-books are simply
electronic books. Almost any normal book can be converted to an e-book which can be read on computers or special
e-book readers like Amazon's Kindle or Barnes & Noble's nook.
E-books originally came on the scene on the internet where people wrote
guides to making money online, manufacturing guides, hardware info, etc. Slowly, novels began to get on the e-book
platform and have been increasing in popularity since then.
The market for ebooks is relatively fractured since anyone can write an book in
Word, convert it to a pdf, and upload it online. Just like that, it becomes an ebook. There are millions of ebook
publishers across the globe due to the ease of publishing text online or in pdf format.
There are thousands of websites offering free ebooks, with texts about
everything from making money online to romance novels. You would be surprised by what you can find with a little
googling!
There are many advantages that ebooks have over traditional books. Ebooks can be
bought, downloaded, and read immediately, while people have to go to bookstores or shop online and wait for
shipping in order to get traditional books. There were over two million free ebooks online as of August 2009. Many
colleges and universities are transitioning to using ebooks since they can be distributed for lower cost per
student for their classes.
New ebook technology allows for colors and motion on the pages; imagine a
traditional book having moving pictures and text! Ebooks can be searched much more easily than real books. Ebooks
have a simple search function, while you have to use a table of contents or index to find the approximate page of
what you're looking for.
Some drawbacks of ebooks versus traditional books are that reading an e-book
requires hardware and software. However, this could be as simple as your cellular phone or your personal
computer or laptop. Also, small paperback books can be smaller and easier to carry around than ebook readers
sometimes, which can be susceptible to dropping and damage. Also, older e-book readers can be difficult to
read outside in bright light. Newer ebook reader screens have gotten brighter to combat this issue.
